With technology advancing so rapidly, educators are looking for new ways to incorporate technology into educating their students. Many teachers have started to use blogs in education; at the elementary level, teachers mostly use blogs as a way to inform parents of what their kids are doing, and a way to share informative articles with students. An interesting blog I found was Infotech with Mr. Losik, this blogs main purpose is to educate students. Mr. Losik posts articles to inform students, and provide them with many useful online resources. He posted online resources for how students can have healthy habits, along with how iPads can improve education. This teacher uses technology in education, and also shows students how technology can improve education.
Another blog that caught my attention was Mrs. Kolbert's Class Blog. Mrs. Kolbert had each student create their own blog, and on the her class blog they can view each students blog and communicate along with answering questions students might ask. In addition Mrs. Kolbert also posts students essays and pictures to show parents what their kids are doing in the class. Along with informative articles for parents and students to read, and parents, kids, and other teachers can comment and communicate on each post!
Through looking at these educational blogs, I have made up my mind, I am definitely having a classroom blog! It's a great way to keep parents involved and informed, they will no longer have to get that "nothing" answer when they ask their child what they did in school today because they will already know! In addition, it will allow a place for students to comment on the activities that we did in class, which helps give me feedback but also helps them to reflect on what they did so what they learned sinks in better. Also having the students make their own blogs is great to improve communication, and can be a great way to help students who may be shy to talk to other students.

Nice work, Kristen! Have you blogged before?
ReplyDeleteYou chose a couple of good blogs as examples...and there are hundreds more! I'm glad you've seen several different ways to use them. The nice part is that YOU can do it!
You've now created your "parking lot" for future challenges. Keep going!
